Restoring Fertility:
A 6 Week Mind-Body Group for Women in Saskatchewan 

Our Restoring Fertility group is a six week program designed for women trying to conceive and looking for ways to enhance wellness, increase confidence, and restore fertility.

This is an introductory group with the goal of learning, and practicing a variety of strategies to reduce distress, and encourage well-being. You will learn different tools and draw on your internal resources to help ride the emotional roller coaster of fertility challenges and begin to establish a practice that you can use anytime.

This group is based on the Mind-Body research and work of Alice Domar, the founder of the first Mind/Body Program for Fertility which is still run at the Domar Center with Boston IVF in Massachusetts.

 

Who is this for?

Women who are:

  • Feeling like having a baby has taken over their mind…and life

  • Wanting to take back control

  • Ready to receive support that leaves them feeling lifted

  • Interested in learning new tools to restore balance/well-being, and increase chance of conceiving

  • Feeling isolated with their best friend being Dr. Google

DATES: Every Wednesday from January 19th to February 23rd 2022

 

TIME: 5:45pm to 7:45pm

WHERE: Online

COST: $650 for 12 hours of group therapy. Early Bird: $550, until January 10th. 

The cost of this group can be reimbursed by your benefits. We encourage you to contact your provider to inquire.

BONUS: Meet up for the participants to meet outside of group, to connect further, get to know each other more. This will take place onlie, on Saturday January 29th from 10am to 11am.

Program Success Rates

After running the group a few times, past participants have reported a reduction in anxiety, depression, as well as increase in pregnancy rates. In fact, 57% of the women that previously took part in our mind-body group got pregnant within 6 months after the group ended.

 

This is constant with "a large federally funded study, where 55% of previously infertile women who met regularly in a mind-body group conceived within 6 months after the program, compared to only 20% in a control group that used no mind-body techniques. " Alice Domar - Founder of Domar Centre.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Sharing about your journey in a group setting and surrounding yourself with others who are facing similar situations can bring healing. Talking about fertility issues isn’t always easy, so we have created a safe environment where you can feel welcomed and accepted. We will create a consent/confidentiality agreement within the group at the first session. Your privacy, and story will be respected. You will not be forced to talk or be “put on the spot”.

 

Group summary

Week #1: The Journey Begins

Introduction to the group. You will learn how to relieve negative emotions and restore balance through a powerful breathing exercise. You will be given a useful technique that will nourish your heart, mind and body.

Week #2: Mind and Body Connection

You will learn how to tap into the mind body connection and how the fight or flight response impacts your fertility. You will practice an exercise to induce a relaxation response used to promote wellbeing.

Week #3: Mindful Fertility

You will learn about the benefits of mindfulness, and how to cultivate it using an experiential, sensory, exercise. You will also be guided through a visualization that will improve patience, and forgiveness.

Week #4: Widening our Perspectives

You will discover how perspective can improve your ability to cope with strong emotions. We will work through a cognitive restructuring exercise that will help you overcome negative and reactive thinking.

Week #5: Fertility Yoga

You will participate in a guided fertility yoga class during which you will learn to reconnect with your body again and further deepen the relaxation response.

Week #6: Going Deeper

You will experience the power of self hypnosis, and how it can help you cope with your emotions with the roller coaster of fertility issues.
